Roberts Very $afe

After reviewing the most recent FEC finance reports, it's pretty clear Senator Pat Roberts is in a very solid position to again win election as a Kansas Senator. He currently has over 3 million in his campaign account. Guess all you Republicans can find another candidate to contribute to.

For the record, I am not anti-Republican or have any particular issue with the party in Kansas. I do have a problem with Roberts's record as intel chair, his farm bill that was some of the worst public policy of our generation, but it does appear he is in a great position to win another term.

By the way, does anyone know how big Roberts's house is in Dodge City? We've heard his only connection to Kansas is an empty apartment he rents in Dodge.

More on those issues in a future post...

Love Hate

By the looks of the comments for my first post, there are some very stong opinions about Senator Roberts. Either you love him or hate him.

I'll be breaking-down the Roberts tenure in my next post. Until then, does anyone have a rational reason why Roberts will or will not be elected again?

Cut and Run Roberts

In surveying the Kansas Republican political landscape after the dismal Novemeber election results, one thing is certain- the 2008 elections could turn out to be an even bigger embarrassment to the party.

Take Pat Roberts and his re-election, for example. Here is a guy I have always admired, voted for and even supported financially. When he was appointed to the Intelligence Committee, I was excited to have his voice of reason amongst his fellow GOP war hawks and demagogues. In today's world state-of-affairs and the constant threat of terrorism and homeland insecurity, here's a guy who could make a difference- and he's my Senator.

Well, guess I was wrong.

After hearing last week that Roberts would no longer serve on the intel committee, I was curious why. Then I found a couple of articles that begin to paint a picture:

-Roberts doesn't think being on the single most important committee in today's global climate is a benefit to Kansans (click for the links.)

-Roberts criticized for cozying-up to liberal Democrat Jay Rockefeller

But the one that put it into perspective the best was this site:

With the Kansas (and national) Democrat machine enjoying their spoils after the November Massacre, Sen. Pat Roberts must already be very, very concerned he cannot win re-election in 2008. He must think the only way he has a chance at victory in 08 is to cut and run and not be held accountable for his numerous failings as intelligence chair. He and his handlers must think out-of-sight, out-of-mind will make it all better.

Unfortunately for him, I think Kansans have a better memory than he thinks.
